The Person at the Center of The Ice Captain's Obsession

Every turn in The Ice Captain's Obsession lands on the same person, and the synopsis makes clear why they cannot step aside.

Micah, a rookie forward on the Black Agate Ice Hockey Team coming from a humble background, signed a trade deal with captain Ryker to save his brother—who was battling heart disease: absolute obedience on the ice in exchange for moving into Ryker's top-floor apartment. As their employer-employee relationship evolved into something more heartfelt, Micah became the only person capable of calming down this tyrannical captain; in return, Ryker agreed to remove his captain's armband, hand over his contract and his future, and secure a spot for Micah on the ice—a spot he had been waiting for all year.

That is the spine of The Ice Captain's Obsession: the people in the synopsis do not get to pretend the story started somewhere else.
