Where the Conflict in The Ice Captain's Obsession Breaks Open

The Ice Captain's Obsession is driven by a collision that was already underway before the first scene.

As their employer-employee relationship evolved into something more heartfelt, Micah became the only person capable of calming down this tyrannical captain; in return, Ryker agreed to remove his captain's armband, hand over his contract and his future, and secure a spot for Micah on the ice—a spot he had been waiting for all year. Micah, a rookie forward on the Black Agate Ice Hockey Team coming from a humble background, signed a trade deal with captain Ryker to save his brother—who was battling heart disease: absolute obedience on the ice in exchange for moving into Ryker's top-floor apartment.

That is the spine of The Ice Captain's Obsession: the people in the synopsis do not get to pretend the story started somewhere else.
